Tank Cleaning Certificate
Definition:
A tank cleaning certificate is an official document that confirms that a tank, container, or transport container has been properly cleaned and is free from residues, contaminants, or hazardous substances.
It serves as proof of hygiene and safety standards and is particularly relevant when transporting chemical products, foodstuffs, pharmaceutical goods and hazardous substances.
In Europe, this is mostly done by EFTCO Cleaning Document (ECD or eECD) , which documents cleaning processes in a standardized manner and is recognized throughout Europe.
Typical content:
- Type of container and previous product content
- Details of the cleaning carried out (methods, temperature, cleaning agent)
- Visual and, if applicable, laboratory inspection results
- Date/time and responsible cleaning station
- Confirmation by authorized personnel/digital approval with eECD
Digital development
With the eECD (electronic EFTCO Cleaning Document), data is transmitted digitally, which reduces counterfeiting and speeds up processes.
Add relevance for food & kosher/ halal transports
Cleaning certificates are required to prevent cross-contamination — particularly in food, pharmaceutical, kosher and halal supply chains.
Challenges when dealing with tank cleaning certificates:
Inconsistent requirements & test procedures
Cleaning certificate requirements vary depending on the product, recipient, certification (kosher/halal/pharmaceutical) and country. Misunderstandings lead to rejections and delays.

Paper documents & risks of falsification
Manual documents can be lost or falsified; a lack of digital transparency makes rapid approvals and audit-proof evidence difficult.

Loady's solution:
Clear document requirements before the start of transport
Loady shows when tank cleaning is required and whether an ECD/eECD is required — including information on product changes, kosher/halal requirements or food approvals.
Digital delivery & driver briefings
Drivers receive clear process instructions on tank preparation, document requirements and cleaning stations. The digital process reduces queries and downtime.
