ECD

ECD

Definition:

The ECD (Electronic Cleaning Document), also known as eECD, is the digital version of the EFTCO Cleaning Document, which was introduced by the European Federation of Tank Cleaning Organizations (EFTCO). It is used to electronically document the cleaning of tank vehicles, tank containers and silo vehicles and confirms that cleaning has been carried out in accordance with defined standards.
The eECD replaces the previous paper-based document and facilitates the transparent, secure and traceable transmission of cleaning certificates along the supply chain.

Standardization & safety aspect
The eECD supports uniform cleaning standards across Europe and ensures that transport containers are clean, safe and free from contamination before the next filling.

Digital process advantages
The electronic version reduces errors and risks of manipulation, improves traceability and enables automatic archiving and digital transfer to shippers, carriers and recipients.

Challenges when dealing with EECDs:

Inconsistent use & lack of digital integration in the transport chain
Not all cleaning stations, shippers or freight forwarders are already using eECD. As a result, there are media breaks and additional coordination costs when some partners use digital and other paper-based documents.

Lack of transparency for drivers & shippers regarding cleaning status & requirements
Without digital documentation, there can be uncertainty as to whether a tank has been cleaned in accordance with the required standard, leading to delays or additional testing during loading.

Loady's solution:

Transparency on tank cleaning requirements per location & product
Loady clearly states whether a validated ECD is required before delivery and which cleaning specifications apply. As a result, freight forwarders and drivers know in advance which documents and cleaning certificates are required.

Reduction of manual queries and faster process flow
By providing structured information on cleaning requirements and accepted document formats (eCD/eECD), the effort required for ramps and factory access is reduced and the processing process is accelerated.
