Tank Truck Coupling
Definition:
One tank truck coupling (TW coupling) is a standardized connection device for the safe and quick connection of hoses, pipes and fittings when loading and unloading tank trucks.
It is in accordance with EN 14420-6 (formerly DIN 28450) standardized throughout Europe and consists of a V part (father part) and one M part (mother part).
The seal is achieved by twisting and locking the clamping ring lever, which compresses the two coupling parts in a form-fitting manner.
Have TW couplings no valves, which allows a large free flow opening. Typical nominal widths are DN 50, DN 80 and DN 100.
Safety notice: Before uncoupling, the line must be completely free of pressure to avoid injuries caused by escaping media.
Typical areas of application:
- Tanker truck and tank container loading/unloading
- Chemical and petroleum industry
- Refineries, tank farms and logistics hubs
Material variants & media compatibility
TW couplings are available in stainless steel, aluminum and brass; seals are selected depending on the medium (oil, chemicals, fuels).
Challenges with tank truck couplings:
Wrong coupling dimension or seal
Incorrect identification of the required coupling size or seal quality leads to leaks, delays or safety risks, particularly with hazardous substances.

Unclear charging point requirements
Drivers often do not know in advance which type of coupling or adapter are required at the location (e.g. TW vs. Camlock), which results in additional equipment or changeover times.
