CEFIC challenges
Regulatory complexity & compliance pressure
The European chemical industry must comply with highly complex regulations such as REACH and CLP fulfill. Companies are under great pressure to correctly document and keep up to date large amounts of security and transport-relevant data. CEFIC is actively working with authorities such as ECHA and EFSA to promote harmonised standards.
High energy costs & declining competitiveness
Europe is suffering from Three times higher energy prices compared to the USA, which weakens the competitive position of CEFIC member companies. Europe's market share in the global chemical business is only 13%, while China dominates. In addition, capacity utilization remains well below pre-crisis levels.
Transformation to sustainability & climate neutrality
CEFIC actively supports the European Green Deal and climate goals. Nevertheless, the transition to climate-neutral and circular production requires massive investments, technology development and new data structures.
Data and supply chain breaches
Companies process massive amounts of product, logistics, and compliance data. These are often decentralised, inconsistent, outmoded or maintained manually, which leads to avoidable errors, delays and high costs.
